Alexander (Sandy) Mackay is a Technical Director with the Snowy Mountain Engineering Corporation (SMEC) in Hong Kong. He is a Chartered Civil and Mining Engineer with 25 years professional engineering experience practicing in Hong Kong, United Kingdom, Australia, Russia, Vietnam, Spain, China and the Middle East. His particular expertise includes the project management, design and construction of major civil engineering projects including from sub-surface excavations and oil and gas pipelines. Projects include the tender preparation of the Drainage Service Department HK West, Tsuen Wan, Lai Chi Kok and Harbour Area Treatment Schemes; detailed design of the Adelaide desalination plant, Australia and team leader assessing geo-hazards impacting the 24 Billion US$ Sakhalin oil and gas pipeline project, East Russia.
Throughout his career Sandy has been an active professional and has served as a Committee Member for the Institution of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IMMM) and the Geological Society (GeolSoc) of London for the last five years and is a Scrutineer and Validator for Chartered Engineer (Engineering Registration Board). He has also published over 30 technical papers and most recently was on the IMMM 2009 HK Tunneling Conference publication vetting committee.
Axel E. Christensen is currently Director in Ramboll Denmark and is overall responsible for the Infrastructure & Transport sector. He has 35 years of experience within planning, engineering and management of large infrastructure Projects, including bridges, tunnels and offshore platforms.
He was part of the project management of the large suspension bridge of the Great Belt Connection in Denmark and he was project director for the design of the large bridge/tunnel connection between Denmark and Sweeden.
He was heading the team participating in the competition to become the clients designer for the Femern Belt Connection between Denmark and Germany, where Ramboll was successful and won the design of the Tunnel solution.
Mr. Christensen has vast international experience and he is currently member of the Board of Directors of L&T/Ramboll of India which has been one of the major players on the Indian Infrastructure market the last decade.

Dr Mingchun Luo is a Director of Consulting and group leader with Arup. He has many year of experience in the research of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling and application of CFD model into building fire research. His research experiences covered with considerable areas of fire safety issues including long tunnel and underground structures. He has extensive publications in international journals and conferences and was an invited speaker in various conferences including the Annual Meeting of SFPE Japan Chapter and NFPA Beijing Conference.
Dr Luo has involved in the development of Australian Fire Engineering Code from 1993 to 1997. He is a member of the advisory committee for the development of performance-based code in Shanghai and Beijing. Currently, he is leading a consultancy team to develop the performance-based code for Hong Kong.
Dr Luo is currently working on the Express Rail Link (XRL) project which is a 26km underground tunnel – one of the longest tunnels in the region. Other tunnel project examples like the Inje Road Tunnel and Baehooryung Tunnel in Korea, Route 9 Nam Wan Tunnel in Hong Kong, Risk Assessment for Chongming River Cross in Shanghai etc. He has also involved in many major developments in East Asia. For Beijing Olympic projects, Dr Luo was the chief fire engineer for Water Cube, Bird’s Nest, CCTV, Beijing Airport T3, etc. In addition, he has involved in the development of fire safety strategy and fire safety design for airport terminals, super high-rise buildings, entertainment and casino facilities, public transport interchange centres, MTR, railway stations and depots.
Ir. Lo is currently an Executive Director of AECOM Asia Co. Ltd. Ir. Lo has practised tunnel, geotechnical and civil engineering for past 28 years in Hong Kong, China, Asia and North America. During his early period, he developed a keen appreciation of rock mechanics and their relationship to structural design in hard rock tunnelling. Ir. Lo is also a competent project manager having been responsible for project planning, design and construction management of many prestigious highway, railway, water and sewer tunnelling projects in the world. He acquired significant experience in Open-face Shield Machine, Earth Pressure Balanced (EPD) machine, Slurry machine and Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) from various tunnel projects involved in past 28 years. Ir. Lo is also the expert for immersed tube tube, C&C tunnel and Drill & Blast tunnel.
The current tunnelling projects under Ir. Lo’s management are Express Rail Link bored tunnels, Hong Kong – Zhuai – Macau bridge IMT tunnel, Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase 1, Kolkata Metro Rail East-west Line, MTRC West Island Line C703, Guangzhou Zhoutouzui Immersed Tube Tunnel, HATS Stage 2a tunnels, Hong Kong West Drainage Tunnel, Lai Chi Kok Transfer Scheme, etc.
Apart from the engineering practise, Ir. Lo also summarized his valuable experiences in the published 27 nos. technical papers in local and overseas journals and proceedings.

Mr. Liu Ka Ding is currently holding the position as Chief Engineer at Shenzhen Metro No. 3 Line Investment Co., Ltd.
Mr Liu is one of the leading Tunnel structure engineering experts in China with many credentials and major positions with national tunnel design and research centers. He graduated from the Southwest Jiaotong University with a major on Tunnel and Subway Construction in 1982 and was studying on project management degree in Tokyo from 1992-1993. Throughout his career, Mr. Liu was involved in the major construction projects with Beijing Metro, Guangzhou Metro and Shenzhen Metro. He was the deputy chief for the Guangzhou Metro Line No. 1 in 1999, overseeing the research, design and construction management of the project.
He joined Shenzhen Metro Company as the deputy chief engineer in 1999 and he was chief engineer for Shenzhen Metro No. 3 Line Investment Co., Ltd. Starting 2004. As part of the company leadership team, he is responsible for the technology evaluation, design approval, standardization and innovations.
Total professional experience – 22 years. Has worked on the Delhi Metro project for Seven years. Eleven years’ experience on infrastructure, sewage treatment plants, industrial and building projects. Two-and-ahalf year’s experience as consultant engineer, laboratory instructor and associate lecturer within the Teaching Faculty in an engineering college.
Design of Various projects for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation including: As Project Director, he has been overall in charge of the project and responsibilities included contract management, project coordination, interaction with client and in house team co-ordination and interfaces and also providing the specialist inputs for the structure component. He has been responsible for taking all major engineering decision on the projects also.

Mr. Steven LAI has been working with Parsons Brinckerhoff for more than 19 years. Currently, he is a Technical Director of Parsons Brinckerhoff (Asia) Limited. He is responsible for the mechanical and electrical as well as fire engineering services for infrastructure projects. Steven is a committee member of the PB Research & Innovation Advisory Committee. He is also an international adviser of the PB Network. In Hong Kong, he is a Past Chairman of the in-house Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning Committee.
Steven is a certified senior professional associate and a certified project manager of Parsons Brinckerhoff. He has been involved in tunnel ventilation design internationally for nearly 2 decades with more than 50 projects for different applications. He is an advisor of the tunnel ventilation teams of Parsons Brinckerhoff in Asia and the region. He has provided project management and design consultancy services for various subway or railway projects in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Xi’an, Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, India, Korea, Thailand, Australia, USA, etc.
Regarding fire and life safety for metro and road tunnel projects, he has worked on long tunnel in Shanghai, an atrium design in a station in Shanghai, Shanghai Expo, fire strategy for stations and tunnels for projects in Hong Kong, etc.

Dr S W Lee has 12 years geotechnical experience since graduation and his experience includes work with consulting engineers and in academic research. In his 9 years with GCG (Asia) Ltd he has carried out advanced analytical studies and designs for deep excavation, tunnelling, foundation, slope, reclamation, embankment, offshore geotechnics and hydrogeology. He has involved in site supervision and management. He is a part-time lecturer teaching geotechnical engineering at the City University of Hong Kong, an industrial tutor at the University of Hong Kong, a reviewer for several journals of the ICE, an Editorial Board member of The Singapore Engineer magazine, an invited speaker for Plaxis and MPile courses in Asia, and an Advanced Registered Analyst with NAFEMS.
Manoj is a specialist in tunnelling, rock mechanics, field instrumentation and nondestructive testing. He has a career spanning more than 27 years. After a short stint with a geotechnical services group in New Delhi, in 1984 Manoj moved to Central Mining Research Institute, a premier research and development institute in mining in India, and helped set up and grow its regional centre at Nagpur. In early 1997, he moved to New Delhi to join Advanced Technology & Engineering Services (ATES) and helped strengthen its operations in providing engineering services in niche areas of civil engineering. Here, he was instrumental in initiating and nurturing several new specialised services, especially in non-destructive testing of concrete and masonry structures and ground penetrating radar, besides his continued work in geotechnical engineering. He rose to the position of Chief Consultant and was heading ATES when he decided to move to Golder in 2008. Manoj has been involved in numerous projects ranging from tunnelling to rock slopes and buildings to bridges.

Manoj has published over 60 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings. He has served on Technical Committees of RILEM and of Bureau of Indian Standards. He is on Executive Committee of Indian Geotechnical Society and on Governing Council of International Society of Rock Mechanics (India).
Rikke Juul Gram is managing Schonherr’s office in Aarhus, with responsibility for both administration, contracts and design. She has special focus on idea and concept development, process management, art, competitions and communication. She is also examiner at The Aarhus School of Architecture as well as judging architectural competitions. Rikke is the overall responsible architect for Schonherr’s involvement in the Femern Belt Tunnel Project.
